Parents Matter

At Isleham Pre-School parent helpers add value to activities. Carers and Parents are paramount to the running of a Pre-School setting; in schools parents are often invited into the curriculum; this is to do with building relationships, valuing different cultures and sharing home learning.

According to (Silva et al 23/9/04 cited on www.ioe.ac.uk 07/05/06 pdf –p1) who have conducted extensive research called ‘The Effective Provision of Pre-School education (EPPE) to the end of Key Stage 1'; their overall summary on the findings of ‘home learning' reads:

“For all children the quality of the home learning environment is more important for intellectual and social development than parental occupation, education or income. What parents do is more important than what parents are”.

The views and opinions of parents count; being anti bias and anti discriminatory towards parent and their circumstances makes all the difference to the child.

Foundation Stage to Key Stage 1 Gender and attainment

The same research reveals that girls attained high scores in cognitive development and social/behavioural (social and peer related). However, the boys scored slightly ahead of girls in Maths and significantly higher in Knowledge and Understanding of the World.
